Kite addresses the mismatch between autonomous AI agents and infrastructure built for human users. Agents may be able to analyze markets or coordinate services in real time, yet conventional systems impose slow cross-border settlement, rigid authorization, credential sprawl, batching, fees, and chargeback risk. Enterprises therefore face a damaging trade-off: give agents real authority and risk uncontrolled losses, or keep them in advisory roles and lose the benefits of autonomy.

The clearest use case is machine-to-machine commerce and API consumption: an agent needs to discover a data, software, inference, or commerce service, pay for it in tiny increments, and receive settlement immediately without invoices or manual reconciliation. Kite argues that low-latency, low-cost agent-to-agent billing, including metered APIs and autonomous shopping, is the economic unlock for the agent economy.

Product / Service

Kite is a protocol and purpose-built blockchain platform that gives agents cryptographic identity, delegated permissions, and native stablecoin payment capabilities. Its Kite AIR offering combines Agent Passport, which gives each agent a verifiable identity and operational guardrails, with an Agent App Store where agents can discover and pay for APIs, data, and commerce tools. The system is designed to integrate with existing standards and services rather than require developers or merchants to rebuild their entire stack; the company says it is already live through open integrations with Shopify and PayPal.

Under the hood, Kite uses an EVM-compatible Layer 1 optimized for stablecoin payments and agent transaction patterns, alongside smart-contract accounts, hierarchical user-agent-session identities, and state channels. Agents can sign lightweight payment vouchers for individual interactions and settle efficiently, while spending caps, allowlists, session limits, and other policies constrain what they can do. The intended benefit is fast, traceable, programmable settlement with lower fees and no chargeback exposure, enabling agents to transact and coordinate at machine speed.

Market

Kite competes in the emerging agentic-payments, agentic-commerce, and trust-infrastructure market, positioning itself as the transaction layer for an agent economy rather than simply another general-purpose blockchain. Its whitepaper identifies Tempo as a payment-focused alternative that does not solve the broader agent problem and Skyfire as an agent-enablement approach that creates systemic risk; protocols and standards such as Google A2A and AP2 are adjacent complements rather than complete execution platforms. The company is therefore competing across blockchain payments, AI-agent identity, programmable authorization, and machine-to-machine commerce infrastructure.

Kite has meaningful financing and early commercial availability: PayPal Ventures and General Catalyst led an $18 million Series A announced in September 2025, bringing cumulative funding to $33 million, and the product was stated to be live through Shopify and PayPal integrations. Kite's public account also states that its mainnet is live. The evidence establishes funding, a launched product, and ecosystem integrations, but does not disclose revenue, paying-customer counts, or audited transaction and user metrics, so its exact commercial scale remains unproven.
