Pulumi is an open-source infrastructure-as-code platform that lets engineers provision and manage cloud and SaaS resources using general-purpose languages such as Python, TypeScript, JavaScript, Go, .NET, and Java, as well as YAML. This allows infrastructure teams to use familiar programming constructs, reusable components, testing, and software-development workflows instead of relying solely on a specialized configuration language. Pulumi Cloud is the commercial, organizational layer, adding managed state, secrets, role-based access control, audit logs, policy management, and deployment orchestration.

The broader platform also includes Pulumi ESC, which centralizes secrets and configuration across vaults and cloud providers, Pulumi Insights for cross-cloud inventory, search, governance, and policy enforcement, and Neo, an AI infrastructure agent designed to generate code, debug deployments, and automate infrastructure tasks with enterprise guardrails. Pulumi competes in infrastructure as code and cloud-infrastructure automation, with an expanding position as a platform for infrastructure and platform-engineering teams. Its most direct competitor is Terraform and its managed HCP Terraform offering; adjacent alternatives include OpenTofu, AWS CDK, AWS CloudFormation, Azure Bicep and ARM, Google Cloud Infrastructure Manager, Kubernetes-native approaches such as Crossplane, and custom internal tooling. Pulumi differentiates through multi-cloud coverage, general-purpose programming languages, an open-source foundation, and integrated governance, secrets, deployment, and AI capabilities.

Pulumi is clearly commercial and not pre-revenue. Its 2024 year-in-review reported more than 3,000 customers, including Nvidia, BMW, Unity Games, and Tivity Health, alongside more than 100 million Pulumi IaC downloads. A September 2025 report cited more than 3,700 customers, over one million IaC downloads per week, $99 million raised, and revenue in the tens of millions, indicating meaningful enterprise adoption and continued growth.
