Netmaker also offers APIs for embedding secure networking into another product or service.

The platform creates segmented virtual networks and lets administrators manage traffic centrally. Nodes can act as hubs that relay traffic or forwarders that connect the overlay to offices, clouds, the internet, or other external networks; administrators can then apply ACLs, device and user policies, and role-based permissions. The result is a faster, more manageable alternative to hand-built VPNs, with point-to-point connectivity, centralized user management, network observability, and the flexibility to retain control of deployment and data.

Netmaker competes in secure virtual networking, mesh VPN, software-defined networking, and zero-trust access. Its most obvious alternatives are Tailscale and ZeroTier, which also provide secure peer-to-peer device connectivity, although Netmaker emphasizes WireGuard, self-hosting, multi-network segmentation, customer or tenant management, and API-based embedding. It also overlaps with traditional VPN, SD-WAN, cloud networking, Kubernetes networking, and managed-service-provider tooling.

The evidence indicates that Netmaker is a commercial company rather than pre-revenue, although the available revenue figure is a third-party estimate rather than audited disclosure: Latka reported approximately $2 million of 2024 revenue, and TechCrunch reported a $2.3 million seed round in 2023. The open-source repository had about 11,700 stars and 648 forks and showed an active v1.6.0 release in June 2026, while Netmaker publishes customer testimonials and case studies involving internal infrastructure, customer access, datacenter links, and hybrid deployments. These signals show meaningful developer adoption and early commercial traction, but do not establish enterprise-scale revenue or market share.
